Woke up this morning to see this:

We’re both early risers now thanks to Troy: Kelly gets up early to feed him, and I get up so I can be at work by 7am, and back at home by 4pm.  This morning, after we fed T-man and made a Starbucks run, we decided to take Troy for his first-ever beach experience.

The ocean didn’t phase him at all.  We stuck his feet in the cold water, and he didn’t even flinch.  What a tough guy.  Also, notice how he is much more stylishly dressed than his father.  Show off.

Just as we started to head back to the house, Troy got a little fussy, so we decided to relax for the rest of the morning until Darci showed up.

After Darci unpacked, we all headed down to Mendocino to do a little window shopping.  It’s a definite tourist trap, full of stores that sell so much crap that you wonder how they could ever stay in business.  The only store that caught my eye was a gallery that sells art that “makes you laugh.”  Whenever I make it big, I’m going to go buy this guy out.  Some of his paintings had me cracking up.  You can see some of his work here:

After tooling around for about an hour, we headed back to the house and had a huge feast, featuring BBQ steaks.  The nice owners graciously provided a Weber charcoal grill for our use, and man, were those steaks good.

We headed up to the house in Mendocino, and on the way we stopped for dinner at Kelly’s grandma’s house.  We pulled in at 6:30pm, and it was still oppressively hot.  If memory serves correctly, it was still in the 102F range.  Nothing a little pizza from the local pizza parlor couldn’t fix, though.  For being such a rinky dink little hole in the wall, they sure make great pizzas.

After about an hour layover, we forged on to the coast.  Highway 20 between Willits and Fort Bragg is extremely windy.  I was trying not to make Kelly and Troy sick, so I was taking it easy around the corners.  We made it through with 0 barf-related incidents.

The house we stayed at was amazing.  We had a big room downstairs, with a nice window seat.  There was also a huge TV room and a bathroom that we had all to ourselves.

Upstairs, there was a large kitchen, a big family room with a fireplace, and a TV room with a huge TV.  The master bedroom and a third bedroom were also upstairs.

It is a very nice house.  My words don’t even begin to do it justice.  You’ll just have to take a look for yourself:

So, thanks, Mom & Dad!  That was one bitchin’ beach house!

Progress

Little Man has been able to roll himself over from Front to Back since he was 4 weeks old, but he has never once gone from Back to Front.  Until yesterday.

We laid him down on his back for a nap, and all was well and good for about 5 minutes.  Then, for no apparent reason, he started screaming his head off.  Curious, but not alarmed, Kelly sauntered into his room to see what was the matter.  It turns out that little Troy-Troy had flipped himself over onto his belly for a little inadvertent Tummy Time.  Troy hates Tummy Time, hence the vocal hysterics.  Kelly flipped him back over, and all was right with the world again.

He is also starting to actively play with his toys.  For instance, yesterday he figured out that pushing buttons on his Exersaucer caused lights to blink and music to play.  This entertained him for about 5 minutes before he decided it was time to once again have a little "blowout".

Ah, well.  Two steps forward, 1 stinky step back.
