Book worm

This is one of my favorite pictures because he does this all the time.  He'll find a book, pick it up, face me, and hold it up in the air with a very earnest look on his face.  It's as if he's saying, "Won't you read this to me, PLEASE?"

That, or, "Sandra Boynton?  Seriously?  If you read me one more Sandra Boynton book, I'm going to stab you in the face with a soldering iron."

Garfield Minus Garfield

Holy crap, these are hilarious

From the site description:

Who would have guessed that when you remove Garfield from the Garfield comic strips, the result is an even better comic about schizophrenia, bipolor disorder, and the empty desperation of modern life?

Friends, meet Jon Arbuckle. Let’s laugh and learn with him on a journey deep into the tortured mind of an isolated young everyman as he fights a losing battle against lonliness and methamphetamine addiction in a quiet American suburb.

What the French, Toast?

I have to apologize.  When I post videos on this blog, I try to make sure they’re a little offbeat; something that your average everyday person probably hasn’t seen before.

This Orbit commercial, even though it’s pretty well known, is something else.  It’s kind of an acquired taste, as I didn’t find it particularly funny the first few times I saw it, but now it absolutely cracks my $h1t up.

It’s the Cootie Queen.  She kills me.

Enjoy.

Later dude.  Thanks for the memories.

Okay, that's it.  My night is shot.  After watching the trailer for the next installment in the Indiana Jones series, I now have the irresistable urge to watch the previous three movies.

See you in about 9 hours, I guess.

Snow day

Seeing as we live about an hour away from the snow, we felt it proper to finally introduce TT to the bliss that is frozen water.

Pretty sweet, huh, dude?  Your life is now complete.

By the way, his mother is responsible for that awful hat.  Troy, I am so sorry.

Moving right along…

He's still not sure what to make of it.

Okay, I think he likes it.

Face plant!

DSC_00270027

Huh.  Apparently babies don't like doing headers into the freezing snow.

Dad made everything all better.

Note my proper baby-tossing technique.  If you need help with this, I highly recommend that you RTM.

In the end, we had a fun family snow day.  The weather was beautiful, and we couldn't have picked a better location.

SnowDay_Fail

Okay, maybe we could have.  That's a Shell station sign.  The Shell station is attached to a Burger King.  Outside the BK was a "Whiskey Tango" lady in a Cutlass station wagon.  Inside the station wagon directly behind the woman were two propane tanks.  Oh, by the way, did I mention that she was smoking like a chimney?  I'm still kicking myself for neglecting to snap of photo of it.

Anyway, it worked for us.  There's actually a decent snow park around the corner, and Troy was having a rough time on the ride up, so rather than force it and drive all the way to Truckee (and later, all the way back to Sac), we decided Nyack was good enough.  Besides, he only lasted out there for 10 minutes, so it would have been a waste of a trip to go any farther.

Spre is screwed

Looks like Latrell Sprewell has fallen on hard times:

Former NBA star Latrell Sprewell’s home is up for foreclosure and his yacht sold at auction to help pay off the $1.3 million he owes on the boat, according to court filings.

I kind of feel bad for the guy, but then there's this:

RBS Citizens NA, or Citizens Bank, filed a foreclosure suit last week in Milwaukee County for the $405,000 home Sprewell bought in the Milwaukee suburb of River Hills in 1994.

In court documents, the bank said Sprewell owed $295,138 in outstanding payments plus interest.

Fut the whuck?  He bought it 14 years ago, owned it through his prime playing/earning years, and still didn't pay it off?  Yikers!

OK, so maybe he wasn't making as much money as, say, Shaq, but he wasn't making chump change, either:

He hasn’t played professional basketball since [...] the 2004-05 season. He was making $14.6 million at the time.

Latrell, things are looking bleak, dude, 'cause ain't no way you're making a comeback after 3 years of doing whatever the hell it is that retired WATB basketball players do.  Hopefully this is all just a big misunderstanding, and you'll emerge from swimming laps in your money vault ala Scrooge McDuck, and throw millions of dollars at your creditors and give them all a big F.U.  Somehow, though, I just don't see that happening.

Starbucks + AT&T = Teh Rad

This is good news.  Whenever I'm traveling and I need to check my email, I'll generally head to Starbucks for a cup of joe and to tap into the T-Mobile wireless hotspot.  However, at $9.99/day, the access fee always ticked me off (though never enough to prevent me from paying for it).  I have never needed 24-hour Internet access at a Starbucks.  Why the heck couldn't they offer a smaller time period for less money?

Well, now they do.  Except "they" is no longer comprised of Starbucks + T-Mobile; "they" is now Starbucks + AT&T:

At Starbucks, T-Mobile is out and AT&T is in, at least when it comes to WiFi. AT&T and Starbucks announced their new partnership this morning, saying that the carrier plans to offer a variety of service offerings at 7,000 Starbucks locations in the US. Best of all, many customers will be able to access the service for free (as in beer), with paid offerings as low as $3.99 for two hours of use.

Ah, sanity momentarily returns to the land of overpriced breakfast sandwiches and macchiatos.

I'm not an AT&T broadband subscriber (monopolies are a bitch (SureWest does provide excellent service, though)), so I don't get to surf for free, but $3.99/two hours is still a welcome change.

Good move, Starbucks!
